Or perhaps in this case (and for the next 15 days)…
We all know that the UK kind of had the best start to New Year ever with Sherlock Series 3 premiering that evening with ‘The Empty Hearse‘. Unfortunately we are not all so lucky as to live in the UK.
So for those of you like myself who are wondering for the umpteenth time why we don’t live in London, and aren’t confident enough in our computer skills/trust of sketchy ‘watch here’ websites to, errm, skirt around that little issue, this is for you!
A 15 day countdown to the US premier of Sherlock Series 3, and how to bide your time to get through it. Join me each day until January 19th as we go through some fun, Holmestastic ways to get through the last of the agonizing wait. Let’s get started. The game, readers, is on!
Day 1 – Sherlockians Anonymous
Now this can be very helpful; safety in numbers and all that. With the UK airing, your excitement has most definitely begun to creep to dangerous levels and the Internet is not helping. You’re trying in earnest to avoid any spoilers, because honestly, where’s the fun in that?
I know, you can’t just abandon your twitter, tumblr, and the like. But you may have to distance yourself and keep a careful eye out for anything remotely referencing Sherlock until the 19th. And I won’t lie to you, it’s going to be tough so a Sherlock support group is will surely come in handy.
You may not have ever believed you’d hear or do this…but we’re going to pull an Anderson here. Observe.
For all intents and purposes it would appear Anderson has joined a Sherlockians anonymous group himself, and minus the beard and losing his job, it seems as if it’s gone, you know, fairly well for him. He’s paying attention to the details and managed to track Sherlock’s movements – heck, I’ll bet he even uses the occasional #believeinSherlock and #SherlockLives! A sure sign of a healthy Sherlockian mind. Good for you, Anderson.
Right. So your job is to find your fellow Sherlockians and commiserate together. Google your area for any existing Sherlock Holmes groups. Most likely you’ll find something whether it be brand new or as old as an original scion society, and they’re just waiting to welcome you with open arms. Sherlockian.Net: Societies and Fandom is a good place to start.
If there isn’t a group in your immediate area, start one! Doesn’t matter if it’s in person or online, more likely than not you are going to make some great new friends. Tumblr and similar sites are great for getting something going. As they say, misery loves company, and you can help each other get through the long 15 day, attempt at spoiler-free wait!
And that’s it for today. Stay tuned for tomorrow’s 15 Days of Sherlock tip! One down, 14 more days to go until ‘The Empty Hearse‘ airs on PBS’s Masterpiece Mystery on January 19th.
