Good news everyone! We are only nine days away from Series 3 premiering in the U.S., and the second wave of Sherlockian euphoria taking over the internet.
Nine days? Ok, then. Let’s to put them to good use as we make it through the last stretch!
Day 6: Stayin’ Alive – Plan a Sherlock Party
The Series 3 premier is the perfect time to have a Sherlockian party. Whether you plan one to watch the first episode, or for a ‘re-watch and prepare to wait once again, whyyyy?’ party at Series 3’s all too quick conclusion, you’re going to need these days to prepare a fantastic, un-meretricious Sherlock shindig. And who better to help you get your Sherlock get together groove on than Jim Moriarty, the consulting criminal himself?
Moriarty, or should I say Moriparty? That guy sure knows how to live. (And by ‘live’ I mean go out with a bang.)
When throwing a Sherlock party, first things first – invitations. Jim Moriarty convinced an entire jury to let him walk free without mounting a defense and had people willingly help him break into the Crown Jewels, open a jail, and open a bank vault. I bet we can successfully manage to get some people on board to watch the premier together. (Not that I’m suggesting anyone exercise extortion… Of course that would be a bit not good. Just maybe the bribery, you know, a little incentive.)
But let’s be real. You don’t need to bribe a Sherlockian to get us to a Sherlock party, the fact that its a Sherlock event is incentive enough! Your Holmesian friends will love and appreciate any little Sherlock touches you put into the planning, so here are some ideas to help you get started on creating the best Sherlock Series 3 party invitation around!
Incorporate ecards expressing the epic friendship which the wait to Series 3 has cemented between you and said invitee.
Keep it classy.
Or you could be a bit of an arse and go there, adding something horribly clever with text like ‘Ready to fall for Sherlock all over again? Jan. 19 Come at once if convenient. If inconvenient, come anyway.’ Or here’s the awesome GirlHero’s tutorial on making your own stamps, so grab some nice stationary and create your own design!
Now that you have some ideas, go forth and create a fun, clever invitation to reach out to your fellow Sherlockians for what is sure to be a great Series 3 get together! Next you’ll want to decorate and get some fun crafts to hand out, and there are so many things you can do for swag from creating your own magnets and character silhouettes to 221B headbands and, oh yes, Watstaches for everyone (think photo booth props).
There are literally Pinterest boards and Tumblr blogs dedicated to Sherlock crafts, which is a great place to start gathering ideas and DIY instructions! If you don’t have time to create things, you can find a ton of low cost, awesome little goodies on sites like Etsy (like these stickers).
Drinks are also something to consider. There are cool Sherlock themed cocktails floating around the internet, and I encountered some clever ones at the SherlockeDCC party last summer such as a Moriarty Mojito. Drinks doesn’t have to mean alcohol, though, and there is always the 100% amazing Sherlock inspired tea blends on Adagio!
Take the Molly Hooper blend by Cara McGee, for example! 🙂

“That is not danger,” said he [Moriarty]. “It is inevitable destruction. You stand in the way not merely of an individual, but of a mighty organisation, the full extent of which you, with all your cleverness, have been unable to realise. You must stand clear, Mr. Holmes, or be trodden underfoot.” – The Final Problem
