Some people – it’s hard to imagine – but some people may not know about the utter excitement you are experiencing because Series 3 airs on PBS tomorrow! You’ve waited. And waited. And waited. And now people are unknowingly attempting to engage you in things that aren’t BBC Sherlock, and really world, that’s just not going to be possible until after tomorrow night.
Oh, what’s that? Not Sherlock related?
Now UK Sherlockians just finished watching Series 3, and you’re probably wondering more than ever why you don’t live in the UK. London, after all, could very easily be your division.
Day 14 – Plan a Trip to London
Unless you live nearby a trip to London will be expensive and, for now, it may just be a trip to look forward to down the road. But hey, you can never start planning a trip too early (especially to London) and give yourself something to look forward to. Besides, with ‘The Empty Hearse‘ airing tomorrow, today is the perfect day to reacquaint yourself with Sherlock’s city!
Before going, study the streets and underground lines. Commit them to your mind palace so that when you do get there, you’ll be navigating those streets like Holmes and Watson themselves. The city is practically a character itself in the books, and is endlessly fascinating.
Plan out a loose itinerary. You’ll be in London, so you will want to see the major sites even if they aren’t directly connected to Sherlock Holmes. Think of it as more data gathering. You never know when you’ll need to know about a painting in the National Gallery or something. It might go something like this…
My Sherlockian Trip to London:
Tuesday – Take a tour.
…Have a backup plan or two in mind.
Wednesday – Museums. All the museums.
Other possibilities: British Museum has the Rosetta Stone & mummies. Could continue study of Oriental ceramic decoration classification at the Victoria & Albert.
Thursday – Catch a performance.
…Perhaps something with violin instead.
Friday – Get in touch with London Sherlockians. Have adventures. Maybe New Scotland Yard has a case?
Saturday – Harry Potter Studio Tour. New Reichenbach theory: Molly is a witch (she’s quirky, a bamf, AND has a cat – what more evidence do we need?). She probably just ‘wingardium leviosa’-ed Sherlock’s arse. Hmm, must gather more data…
The studio is seriously amazing, though, and should be on any Potter fan’s list!
And so on and so forth, with little doodles and notes littering your page reminding you of this and that: Always double check the appearance of cabbies before getting in. Smile at the CCTV cameras, Mycroft is watching. See the Crown Jewels – never know when a consulting criminal is gonna come along – best see them early on.
Yep, this trip is going to be magnificent one day. In the meantime, spend Day 14 planning, plotting, and dreaming an epic Sherlockian adventure in London. And while you wait, hang around for the last of our 15 Days of Sherlock series and we’ll be watching the consulting detective and good doctor on our screens again soon enough!
‘It is my belief, Watson, founded upon my experience, that the lowest and vilest alleys in London do not present a more dreadful record of sin than does the smiling and beautiful countryside.’ – The Copper Beeches
Thanks for reading, cheers! Until then…
